Steve qualified as an Architect in 1973 and spent 14 years with Sheffield City Council's Architects department, followed by three years as Regional Architect for Whitbread plc at their Sheffield office.

After leaving Whitbread Steve formed his own company to specifically support users of a specialist CAD system, but always with the intention to take on other 'architectural' work. A large percentage of the work was initially building and topographical surveys, mostly for the Nat West Bank. Many buildings were modelled in 3D. Whitbread plc became a client in 1995 and they were asked to provide a CAD service to assist in the standardisation of their Brewers Fayre and Premier Travel Inn estate.
